Visitors Flock to BBC Stargazing Event

Mexborough & Swinton Astronomical Society in association with the RSPB Old Moor staged a hugely successful "Starlings and Starlight" event on January 8th 2011 as part of BBC Stargazing Live.

Over 100 visitors braved the cold weather and flocked to the RSPB's Dearne Valley reserve to be rewarded with sights of the starlings coming into roost before spending the evening observing the Moon and Jupiter; as a special treat visitors also had the chance to see the International Space Station (ISS) passing overhead.

The Society hopes that the success will build a strong partnership with RSPB Old Moor and that further outreach events will arranged between the two organsiaitons.
